Meet the Coach
Robert Charles Margareten
The Beginners Program The Journey from Walker to Runner.
So you’re new to running. Actually the idea of running five miles kinda terrifies as much it intrigues you. As a personal trainer I often see horror flash in my client’s eyes the moment I suggest starting a running program. Relax, I guarantee you can do this – everyone I have ever worked with has.
When planning this race we had YOU in mind – the beginner non-runner.
We know how crazy hectic everyone’s life is these days. Sadly most people don’t take the time to take care of themselves. We’re hoping to assemble a community of “beginner-runners” who work out, can run for 30 minutes or so, and have them finish a 13.1 mile race. You can do a mix of walking and running so you will finish and can do it! One way or another we’d like you to have a great time doing it and be in better shape than when you started.
I’m pretty sure that if we dropped you at the start of the track today, you’d be able to complete it. It may be a mix of walking perhaps, but you would be able to complete it. So there, it’s not that scary you’re already there for the most part.
Training therefore will just be about transforming some of that brisk walking into jogging or running. The program we list is a gradual one and will very slowly ease you into it.
So relax follow the program and I guarantee you’ll see success.
Remember the program that follows is designed to take you from being a “walker/jogger” to a “jogger/runner”. So when you do finish you’ll be a runner! Now when people talk about exercise you can say casually say, “Yes, I run – ran this half marathon for charity once” (sounds pretty cool).
As your coach I’m available via E-mail to answer your questions and concerns. We will provide info and can answer questions about proper running gear, stretching and heart rate. We will be posting schedules and more information as it becomes available.
Sincerely ,
Robert Charles Margareten
